Why founding a children’s magazine matters.

Does it?

Some days ago, I read about the “neuronal recycling hypothesis” and it made me question about the purpose of this project, which I have been working on for so long, in an arduous process of self-discovery and professional growth attempt. In fact, rather than questioning it, I was able to understand its purpose a bit better.

This hypothesis basically has to do with the recognition of symbols and images that our brain uses to create language. And I couldn’t stop thinking about the symbols and images children have access to with the current media and how they might be affecting their experience with understanding life and recognizing their own voice.

I couldn’t stop asking myself how my intention could craft the final product. And by final product, I’m not only referring to the magazine itself, but the whole brand, as movement, as social strategy, and as something that could actively become a positive element for children’s affinity to literature.

So then, the whole project came into a process of transformation. I realized that it all had to be much simpler. Because within the simple, magic rests, ready to appear when curiosity and creativity call its name. Within the elementary, we can understand the needs, actively listening to what children currently demand.

The Equestrian Greyhound is a celebration of storytelling as a collective act of love. It is a project that has the objective to make reading and writing a shared activity —an elemental ritual of self discovery, where images and symbols come together as a restorative language formed by collaboration, understanding and imaginative decoding.

So yes, funding a children’s magazine matters. And of course, maybe I say this as a way to support my project and believe that this idea is worth it. But that’s the thing: I want to believe in it. Because all of the images and symbols I’m getting right now are showing me that there’s a need, and the magazine comes to introduce new elements to cover that need.
